'Competence at mentoring nursing students during clinical practice'

We invited Dr Kristina Mikkonen as a lecturer, who is an Associate Professor of Research Unit of Nursing Science and Health Management, University of Oulu, Finland, and is visiting Osaka University as a Specially Appointed Professor, through Osaka University International Joint Research Promotion Program. She talked about the development of elaborate researches on mentoring nursing students. We all found it really meaningful!

'Mental well-being in population health research: Some thoughts through my career lifecourse'

A special lecture was given by Dr Noriko Cable, a senior research fellow of International Centre for Lifecourse Studies in Society and Health Dept, University College London (UCL).
Talking with reflection of her career lifecourse, she introduced and explained the current evidence in the UK, research approach and what we we should look into reserach.
Her continuous attitude to make uncertainties clear from a nurse perspective was very impressive.

Academic/Student exchange with Korean universities, Jan 8, 2020

A total of 35 academic fellows and students visited our Medical Physics and Engineering from Kangwon National University and Shingu University in Korea. This is their 4th visit, which could further promote exchange between universities through campus introduction, academic presentation and facility visit.

Special Lecture at Osaka University, Dec 10, 2019

Whether or not it would be better to get rid of the anxiety?
- What is the important treatment target in mental care of aged people and dementia family caregivers?

Inviting Dr. Naoko Kishita, a specialist in neuropsycology at University of East Anglia, England, a special lecture was given coordinated by the Center for International Academic Programs.

Evidence based practice in England was introduced under the steady procedure with flexible ideas.






Although the lecture started early in the morning, many academics, researchers and students attended the lecture.








Special Lecture at Osaka University, Aug 30, 2019

Inviting Dr. Kana Fujikura, National Institutes of Health, US, a special lecture ‘Complementarity of Echocardiogram and Cardiac MRI’ was given on Aug 30, 2019. After the introduction of the latest cardiac MRI, we had a meaningful exchange of opinions about the future direction of diagnostic imaging.

About 10 faculty/graduates attended.

'Service Learning: Humanity and Transcultural Program' (SLHTP), held at Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, held from 6th August to 15th August, 2019

Three nursing students participated in the program. Through the 2 week program, learned about aboriginies, culture, and the concept of service learning, and also visited nursing laboratory and veterans care center.

Through traditional attire experience, enjoyed dance and songs.







In Chinese language lesson, leaned Chinese greetings and simple conversation.








Played big drums for 2 hours in percussion lesson.







Learned Taiwanese culture through tea ceremony.















The 42nd International Twin Research Seminar, at Osaka University, 24 July 2019

Center for Twin Research is conducting collaborative research with Semmelweis University, Hungary. In this special edition of Twin Research Seminar, we discussed the current situations of twin research in both countries and future collaboration/development between universities.

Summer Program at Osaka University 2019: Long term care system & scientific technology in Japan aging society'
July 15 - July 26, 2019

First collaborated summer program by Professor Yamakawa and Gurume Kineya Shakai Koken no Ie. Inviting 10 students from 4 asian partnership universities (Taipei Medical Univesrity, Tzu Chi University of Science and Techonology, South Medical Univesrity and University of Hong Kong), a variety of lectures and facilitiy visits were organized for 2 weeks to learn the issues and approches to the long term care in super aging society in Japan.

Visit to a day service center, accompanied by OU graduates. Experienced the activities and lunch with the elderly, and learnd the difference in facilities between countries.

Weekend visit to Nijyo Castle in Kyoto, wearing Yukata







During the program, a delegation from Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare visited the Division of Health Sciences, OU, to share/exchange opinions about long term care. After the presentations by both countries, an active discussion was conducted.

On the final day 'Certificate' was given to the participants.






At the farewell party, enjoyed the 'udon making' at Gurume Kineya Shakai Koken no Ie.





International symposium, at Osaka University, 25 June 2019
Prof. Winston Tseng, Public Health, University of California, Berkeley, gave a lecture on ‘International Caregiving and Wellness in the United States and Japan’


32 faculties and graduate students participated in this symposium. Thank you very much for fruitful discussions.
