Research Introduction

Are older people happy? It is our job to keep asking every day. We view older people from their perspective as living people and construct the role of nurses who play a central role in multidisciplinary collaboration from both research and clinical perspectives. Our research fields span many fields, from extending healthy life expectancy to end-of-life care. We conduct the following research activities while considering what we can do as nursing researchers to establish a "next-generation paradigm" that can establish a sustainable healthcare delivery system in a super-aging society.

1.
Exploring optimal multidisciplinary intervention for multimorbidity

In addition to the conventional perspective of "the older people as sick people", we will clarify the role of nurses for older adults who cannot be supported by organ-specific and disease-specific medical care alone from the viewpoint of "older people as living people".

・Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) (PI: Yasushi Takeya)
“Exploration of optimal nurse-centered interventions for multimorbidity”.

2.
Phenotype model usefulness for polypharmacy and promotion of collaboration between nursing and pharmacy

We are researching the usefulness of the phenotype model which provides a holistic picture of the patient for polypharmacy in older people. We promote collaboration between nursing and pharmacy and play a part in the field of geriatric pharmacy.

3.
Standardization of comprehensive geriatric assessment in Japan

In collaboration with Nagoya University, the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Tokyo University, and the Department of Geriatric Medicine of Osaka University, we will add a nursing perspective to the comprehensive geriatric assessment and develop an evaluation method unique to Japan.

4.
Study of the modalities of end-of-life care

In addition to a survey of the actual state of ACP in Japan, we will explore the state of end-of-life care using AI and biomarkers. We aim to create a foundation for end-of-life care based on scientific perspectives.

5.
Construction of a new nurse-led network system that connects the lives of older peoplee

For older people living in the community with multiple disabilities after discharge from the hospital, medical care that supports their recuperative life is important. Eliminating the gap between hospitals and communities, and We, nurses, will build a way of life-centered collaboration based on information collaboration using EHR and PHR, so that older people can receive appropriate nursing care whenever and wherever they are.

6.
Using ICT-based sleep indicators to develop continuity of care from pre-illness to mild cognitive impairment and dementia

①To test the effectiveness of combined ICT and health guidance interventions to improve sleep literacy for older people living alone in the community and in elderly households, and to create evidence for non-drug interventions.

②Establish a system to monitor older people living alone at home with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia for a long period using a variety of devices to ensure that they can live in peace.

7.
We create a new research design that guarantees the quality of health care services, which are mixed, and leads to social implementation.

8.
Study of support measures for family support in-home dementia care

For family caregivers caring for people with dementia at home, we will create a registration database and develop an intervention method to determine whether the emotional expression has an adverse effect on the the people with dementia and their families.
