As we aim to prepare 21st century medical specialists, we, as a country, face a society with an increased number of geriatrics, a frontier that no other country has crossed before. We cannot target diseases in the same manner that we have been until now. We are in need of nursing personnel and medical and radiological technologists that are capable of disease prevention, health maintenance, and advanced support. With this progress, the development of new machinery will become vital. Therefore talented individuals that have a foundation in physical science and engineering along with medical knowledge are necessary. Not only this, it has become necessary to have health science specialists influence the designs of heath institutes.

In the midst of these societal demands, the Osaka University School of Allied Health Sciences was inaugurated in 1993 with goals of training talented people with leadership skills who can carry the burden of guiding scholarly progress in the field of medical treatment welfare.

Osaka University has its origins in Osaka's study halls such as Kaitokudou and Tekijyuku. Traditionally, the citizens of Osaka have built up education and supported educational institutions. The people's drive to find truths, their openness, and their respect for advanced thinking are still reflected in Osaka University's mission. The university hopes to attract students what are motivated to venture into this new field rather than to study only conventional knowledge. The world is now looking to Japan for contribution in the area of medical techniques. In response to those demands, the School of Allied Health Sciences is eager to train professionals who can make contributions to the rest of the world. At the same time, the university is ready to welcome young professionals from developing nations for both undergraduate and postgraduate-level studies and research.
